Why swap it
Standard crackers are refined flour, oil, and salt: a savory cookie that digests about as fast as one.
Best choices
These fit the Weigh to Stay approach: real food, with refined carbs and added sugar kept low.
- Seed crackers. Made mostly from flax, chia, sesame, or sunflower seeds. Crunchy, filling, and low in carbs.
- Baked cheese crisps. Just cheese, baked until crunchy. Very low carb, high protein.
- Cucumber rounds, bell pepper strips, or celery. The simplest swap: let vegetables be the vehicle for your dip or cheese.
In moderation
Better than the original, and a fine everyday choice. Just keep the portion reasonable.
- Nut-flour crackers. Usually much better than wheat crackers, but check the label, since some add starches.
The specific brands I buy and use myself are coming soon.
Shopping tip
If a cracker lists "enriched flour" or any starch near the top of the ingredients, it's a refined-carb cracker, whatever the front of the box says.
